Photographing work for my upcoming show at Belgrave St. Ives

Fortunately my assistant was wide awake…most of the time.

SARAH POLAND – The Intimacy Of Liminal Spaces

5th to 28th November 2016

Sarah Poland moved from Cornwall to Wales in 2011 shortly after her last one-person exhibition with the gallery in 2010. Part of the artist’s time was spent living off-grid in an Oak woodland. The works selected for this exhibition include drawings, prints and paintings all of which relate in one way or another to the natural environment experienced during this period by the artist. It is interesting to see how the change in surroundings, together with an intensive period of study at Aberystwyth School of Art, has effected the artist’s working methods.

Belgrave St. Ives solo exhibition imminent.

I had a lovely studio visit from Michael Gaca of Belgrave St. Ives, a top Cornish gallery. Arguably the best. He drove all of the way from west Cornwall to west Wales to view and select from my series The Intimacy Of Liminal Spaces.

The result is a Sarah Poland Solo Exhibition at Belgrave St. Ives in November 2016.

Good news.

Exhibition at the Druidstone, Pembrokeshire

I have an exhibition up currently showing work from ‘Either Side Of The Night’, an exhibition held at Belgrave Gallery in 2008. The work was shown then for three weeks and has been in storage since. So, those which didn’t sell in the brief window of opportunity, with frames touched up, they are now in the large dining room, over looking the Atlantic, at the Druidstone Hotel in Pembrokeshire.

Druidstone Hotel, Pembrokeshire

This is a positively bohemian establishment where you might find yourself sitting next to gypsies, food lovers or rock stars. It has a relaxed and worn-in atmosphere where one could find a nice corner, perhaps in the walled garden, to sip coffee and write a book. They even serve fabulous food All day, which is otherwise unheard of, so if you come off the coastal path hungry at 3, you will be catered for. They also serve good beer and have a calendar of acoustic gigs.

Enough about them, it’s worth a visit. The whole series of work can be seen on my website, ‘Either Side Of The Night’.

I will also be adding a page to my website

The cards are reproductions of my artwork; drypoint etchings, lithographs and oil paintings, all professionally printed. They measure 120x170mm, are printed on 300gsm card, supplied with a white envelope and are cellophane wrapped for protection. They are blank inside.

The back of the card details the artwork and also has the Barnardos logo, endorsed by them, because I, the artist, promise to donate 10% of profits from the card to the children’s charity.

On purchasing these cards you will be supporting both Barnardo’s children’s charity and a living artist.

My latest lithographs are to be seen in  Belgrave Gallery’s Summer Exhibition. The gallery has an interesting mix of three different exhibitions. Three ‘themes’ titled ‘CONTEMPORARY ART Summer Exhibition 2013‘, ‘MODERN ART Summer Exhibition 2013‘, ‘TRIBAL ART Summer Exhibition 2013‘.

The prints are titled Raven Fingers Pointing Call All. They are two in an edition of four different lithographs, made by preparing five different stones and printed on paper with different combinations of colours in different orders. The prints below use four and three stones consecutively. The title comes from the line of a poem titled ‘Under A Northern Sky’, written in Sheltand during a residency I undertook in 2006.

America's Finest (and others)

29 March – 22 April 2013

The gallery is very pleased to present a new exhibition of Urban Art, featuring some of the key names in the genre. In 2008, Belgrave St Ives was the first gallery in Cornwall to present an exhibition by internationally acclaimed Urban and Street artists, and this new exhibition continues to explore this dynamic area of Contemporary Art. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to see and acquire work by some of the best names in the field. All works in the exhibition are framed and available to purchase from receipt of this email.

Studio Ceramics

The gallery continues to develop the area of good quality affordable applied art (ceramics, small design objects, etc.). If you are interested in studio pottery, have a look at our new website page featuring works by Richard Batterham, Alan Brough, Mike Dodd, Sotis Filippedes, Ninna Gotsche, Lisa Hammond, Shigeyoshi Ichino, David Leach, Peter Swanson, Phil Rogers, Harvey Young and others.

Black & White Exhibition

An elegant, online-only focus show of primarily black & white works by Modern and Contemporary artists from the gallery’s inventory.
